EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY VA MEDICAL CENTER LEBANON VAMC, PA
Education: Must posses a bachelor degree or associated degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or in a related science, and completion of a medical technology clinical practice program. Both the education and clinical practice program must have been approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
The Medical Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for phlebotomies. They will also perform, evaluate, interpret, correlate, and validate the accuracy of laboratory
procedures and results.
Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using manual or automated techniques, and require a broad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision.
The work performed is in a variety of laboratory disciplines, such as microbiology, chemistry (including toxicology), coagulation, hematology, immunology, immunohematology (blood banking), serology, urinalysis, and virology.
Position includes monitoring of quality control systems and measures, collaboration in diagnosis and treatment plans, and providing education to medical center staff and the general public. Position will be primarily dayshift hours with some weekend coverage and occasional evening hours.
All candidates must currently possess the appropriate certification examination as a Medical Laboratory Technician given by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (ASCP-BOR), the National Credentialing Agency (NCA), American Association of Clinical Chemists (AACC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
c) Medical Laboratory Technicians must be proficient in spoken and written English
Medical technologists who have current, full and unrestricted certifications in one or more states, but who have, or have ever had a certification restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied upon application shall not be considered for the purposes of this task order.Must be able to perform phlebotomies when required on inpatients.
Must have no physical condition that prohibits standing or ability to lift up to 30lb.
g.Must be able to work without direct supervision.
h.Must be able to work independently in a laboratory environment.
i.Must be computer literate, as SVAMC utilizes Computerized Patient Record System, VISTA and VBEC Blood Bank software system. The candidate shall have computer and typing skills. Computer training and access will be provided on the first day of service. Sharing of computer access codes is prohibited.
j.The contractor employee will document patient care to comply with all VA and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. As VA routinely reviews and updates policies and procedures covering contractor computer access, this contract may be modified to reflect new policies and procedures implemented during the term of this agreement.
k.Other necessary personnel for the operation of the services contracted for at the VA will be provided by the VA at levels mutually agreed upon which are compatible with the safety of the patient and personnel and with quality medical care programming.
l.The services to be performed by the contractor will be in accordance with VA policies and procedures and the regulations of the medical staff by laws of the VA facility.
m.Relationships with management, co-workers, patients, and the general public are consistently courteous, respectful, and cooperative in nature. Incumbent will display a cooperative attitude and will effectively work together to implement the organizations mission and goals. Incumbent will ensure productivity is maintained at the established level for the program for which he/she is responsible.
n.Must be fluent in written and spoken English proficiently
